Apis cerana indica (Asian honeybee) and Apis mellifera (European honeybee) differ mainly in size, colony size, and native range. A. cerana indica is smaller, has smaller colonies, is more disease-resistant, and is adapted to Asian environments, while A. mellifera is larger, forms larger colonies, is a more common commercial species globally, and is more sensitive to some pesticides.
